Cineform For Mac

Oh, solved it. I found this link, which said:

GoPro-CineForm Decoder is a dedicated third-party software solution that was designed to help CineForm Studio users play Active Metadata and decode CineForm files of.

Cineform

You need the CineForm codec, available for free at:

  1. Cineform and DNx are technically competitors to (and inspirations for) the ProRes workflow, so it makes sense that Apple might not work extra hard to support them in Final Cut Pro. But Apple doesn't say that 'Final Cut' won't support Cineform and DNx. It says that a future MacOS won't support DNx and Cineform.
  2. In Cineform Studio on my Mac (Mt Lion), I exported the file to a.mov file, which I thought would be compatible with iMovie. IMovie, iPhoto, and iTunes don't recognize this file. I don't want to import the.mp4 files that the camera recorded because I want the modifications that I made in Cineform.

Apparently, the Cineform app only supported these codecs: CFHD, Linear PCM, and Timecode. So this Cineform codec (formerly called Neo Player) fixes the problem by including a QuickTime and a Windows decoder.

This codec enabled me to see the video in iPhoto as an event. Then iMovie could see all the events in iPhoto, so I was able to shorten the clip and add titles. Actually, I have to say I was pretty pleased how it all came out.

I also found out there is a GoPro user forum at http://goprouser.freeforums.org/mac-f8.html

Hope this helps those who follow behind me...
